And, as the residents here know, gold comes in many forms. The area is rich for exploration. Kick up your heels in the Sierra Nevada foothills – covered in wildflowers or colorful leaves depending on the season – or pan for gold in the old mining towns. Hike, bike or ride a horse. You might also try spelunking in one of the caves near the resort. And, of course, a game of golf is never far away
