About mid-way between Los Angeles and San Diego is San Juan Capistrano, a charming destination or daytrip that attracts many visitors to Southern California.

In fact, Mission San Juan Capistrano is the third largest visitor attraction in Orange County behind Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. Over 500,000 visitors a year experience the beauty of this world famous Mission.

Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1776, which is known as the Jewel of the Missions. It is renowned for its beautiful courtyard gardens and legendary "Return of the Swallows" on March 19th of each year.

The historic downtown area features the Mission, the historic Capistrano Depot railroad station and the beautiful Los Rios Historic District. Everything is within walking distance of the Mission. Shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities abound throughout the downtown area. Pick one up at the Chamber of Commerce office located in Franciscan Plaza, Suite 306, at 31781 Camino Capistrano.

The chamber's friendly staff will assist you with answers to your questions about this beautiful and historic City. The city is predominantly residential, with a mix of commercial, industrial, agricultural and tourist oriented uses. It is one and one half miles from the ocean, midway between Los Angeles and San Diego, 62 miles from Los Angeles and 65 miles from San Diego. The City is blessed with pleasant summers and moderate winters with offshore prevailing breezes.

Los Rios Historic District:

Oldest residential neighborhood in California. Adobes date back to 1794. Visit Old California by stopping at Moonrose Candle Shop, the Ramos House Cafe, the Tea House on Los Rios, and the Apple Rose Cottage Gift Shop for a unique shopping and dining experience.

Everything is within easy walking distance of the Mission, Historic District or Capistrano Depot. Take the Amtrak or Metrolink to San Juan Capistrano Depot or the I-5 Freeway, exit at Ortega Hwy. Plenty of parking downtown.
