Big Bear, Tahoe among best lakes in USATwo California lakes came out near the top of a recent poll seeking the best recreational lakes in the country. Big Bear Lake came in at No. 2, with Lake Tahoe taking the No. 5 spot in the USA.
It's a poll conducted by USA Today and 10Best. The best recreation lake in the country is the Lake of the Ozarks, according to the readers' survey.
According to readers, Big Bear Lake is popular because of the excellent year-round weather. The lake is seven miles long and great for water sports such as fishing and kayaking and lots of activities on the shore. Big Bear has long been a popular resort community because it's only a couple hours' drive from the warm climate and population of the Los Angeles basin.
Lake Tahoe, which is on the border of California and Nevada, is known for its wilderness and outdoor adventures as well as the nightlight and entertainment at places like South Lake Tahoe. In South Tahoe, according to the survey, "you can spend time indoors, trying your luck at casinos, dancing, dining and drinking. In North Tahoe, hit the ski slopes in the winter and the golf courses in the summer. Great beaches can fill up the rest of your vacation time."
The top 10 winners in the category Best Recreational Lake are as follows:
Lake of the Ozarks, Big Bear Lake, West Okoboji Lake, Lake Cumberland, Lake Tahoe, Lake Havasu, Lake Michigan, Lake Coeur d'Alene, Flathead Lake and Lake Powell.
