SeaWorld is holding an 18-month celebrationIt's been 50 years since SeaWorld first set up shop in sunny San Diego and the famous theme park figures that's the perfect excuse for a party. Not one day, or one week or even one month, mind you -- but 18 months of celebration, starting in March 2014.
The park's "Sea of Surprises" will include a brand new interactive experience called Exlporer's Reef where visitors will find multiple touch pools. Careful what you touch, however -- shark pups, cleaner fish, stingrays, they'll all be there, so it all depends on how adventurous you want to be. You can also get up-close and personal with penguins and flamingos.
Be sure to keep a close eye out for the Surprise Squads that will be roaming the park and randomly selecting guests to shower with prizes such as exclusive access to rides, T-shirts, behind-the-scenes experiences, reserved seating, Shamu-themed merchandise, tickets to shows and more.
The park has also constructed a series of giant sea life sculptures, making them from ocean debris.
If you have not been to SeaWorld, it's one of San Diego's premiere attactions and is worth spending multiple days in order to see all the shows and visit all the exhibits. In recent years, more rides have been added and the park offers more fun that ever before.
Seaworld is located just a few miles from other seafront attractions in San Diego including those along San Diego Bay. Chief among those is Seaport Village with an impressive selection of shops and meandering waterfront walkways to fully take in the beauty of the San Diego shoreline. The weather is nearly always sunny and pleasant in San Diego, so plan to dress lightly and enjoy a summer or spring experience almost any time of year.
Also be sure to allow time to take the foot ferry from the San Diego waterfront to Coronado Island. It's a scenic excursion across San Diego Bay ending at a colorful shopping center. From there it's just a short walk into the downtown area where you can go shopping and see such famous attractions as the Hotel del Coronado.
