October bargain
San Diego attractions free for kids in October
San Diego will again offer its annual Kids Free 1 promotion during the month of October. Kids get in free to major attractions in the city including Legoland, the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld.

Additionally, kids are admitted free to tours, museums, cruises and various other activities. The only catch is you have to have a paid adult admission.

The promotion generally applies to kids under the age of 9, although certain attractions have free tickets for older kids, including those in their teens. There are more than 100 offers on the www.sandiego.org website, including admission to 30 museums.

San Diego's hotels are getting in the spirit, too, with special kids' perks during October. Hotel rates are generally more affordable in October as well, although that can vary according to how busy the hotels get with conventions and other promotions.

San Diego is known as a kids' paradise with the major theme parks in addition to many beach areas perfect for families. Many hotels are built near the water, some with tropical themes and many with large swimming pools or access to lagoons or the ocean.

Balboa Park is home to the San Diego Zoo and boasts several museums that are especially appealing to children. In nearby Escondido the Zoo operates San Diego Zoo Safari Park which allows you to view the animals in their native habitat. Ziplines and other adventures are available at the park.

The biggest kids' attraction in San Diego is SeaWorld, which offers an amazing variety of sea life all in a theme park atmosphere with fun rides and lots of live stage shows each day. Legoland also is a major draw for kids and is located 25 miles north of San Diego in Carlsbad.
