Harry Potter attraction opens with fanfareOne of the biggest new California theme park attractions in recent memory has opened at Universal Studios Hollywood. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which opened in early April, promises to be a financial shot in the arm for Universal and help them compete with Disneyland and other parks.
Park developers see the new attraction as a live movie with visitors being characters in the movie. When you enter the park, you see a replica of the Hogsmeade Express which, of course, Harry Potter rides to Hogwarts. You can even have your picture taken in replicas of the train seats used in the movies.
The new attraction includes cobblestone streets along with narrow alleyways, giving the impression to visitors that the buildings have been there for centuries. You'll recognize Madam Puddifloot's tea room and Ollivanders along with characters from the films. You can also buy magic wands that can be used at several locations in the park to make something mystical happen.
As you might suspect, there is all kinds of food available at the park at such places as Three Broomsticks designed to be like a tavern from the books. English fare is available, of course, as is English-style ale.
You can also get Butterbeer, which is a non-alcoholic beverage with a smooth butterscotch taste and cream foam on the top.
As for rides, there are two included in the new park: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey a 3D-HD ride and the Flight of the Hippogriff which is a roller coaster. For more information, please go to www.universalstudioshollywood.com.
