Hearst Castle creates new app for visitors
Visitors to California's Hearst Castle now have a 1cool new way to see the historic property: the new Hearst Castle Tour App, available in the Apple App store.

The app was created in collaboration with Hoyt Fields, Hearst Castle Museum Director. It provides historical context in the form of audio and video descriptions provided by researcher and author Victoria Kastner Visitors will be able to use the app at the castle where the app will track the visitor's location and offer commentary and relevant information about what the visitor has in front of him.

The Hearst Castle is the most popular tourist attraction in San Luis Obispo County, along the Central California coast. It was the home of newspaper magnate William Randolf Hearst. It was common for Hearst to invite celebrity guests to the castle for a weekend -- a serious expedition back in the 1920's and 30's when guests would have to take a train from Los Angeles so San Luis Obispo and then be driven by car for another couple hours to the home's location near San Simeon. It was then a full weekend of partying, with guests generally leaving Monday morning.

When you go to the Hearst Castle today, you are taken to the home by tour bus from the San Simeon base of operations. It's a slow five-mile trip up to the castle, but there are no shortage of tourists with more than a million visitors each year.

One at the castle, guests will be amazed at the opulence including the indoor and outdoor pools, the gardens, fountains and architecture of the estate. There are several different tours you can take, each focusing on a particular section of the castle.

Visitors will also find other parts of this area well worth visiting while in the area. The area has some of California's most spectacular beaches -- such as Pismo Beach, Cambria and other locations with wonderful beachfront accommotions. The wine regions of Paso Robles and Atascadero are easy to get to and fun to explore. The largest city in the area, San Luis Obispo, is also an enjoyable place to visit with fascinating tourist attractions throughout the city.
